I ventured into the hills today and towards the end of the ride was low on energy. I have a Camelbak so drunk loads but needed an energy boost.

I'd welcome suggestions for easy to carry energy boosting snacks. Gels and bars can be expensive. I'm looking or something I can pick up in the supermarket.

I get my gels for £1.50 each so not that expensive.

other than that jelly babies, and stop and have a cake and a coffee at halfway point

Gels don't agree with me.
Snickers and mars bars are great and a fast source of glucose, but a bit lacking on the salt front.
I personally try to avoid the powders to mix in your bottle and go for te natural, just water and snickers.
Jelly babies are a perennial favourite too.

I used to do the sweet thing but just get fed up of sweet stuff. A cheese and pickle sandwich always seems to hit the spot. It even fits in the jersey pocket, although it can get a bit squished.

On long rides I carry a few slices of Malt Loaf or I plan a cafe stop.
