I was with PlusNet for a year, ending last August. It wasn't a happy experience. They got me online four weeks later than the start date that they originally gave. (We're in London, not a remote rural area). The final straw was leaving me without a broadband connection for three weeks while variously blaming my three computers, their modem, my ability to operate a PC, etc....before finally admitting that some person at their end had dicked about with the software, rendering my connection unusable. Fortunately I was able to cancel the last six months of the contract because they unilaterally increased their charges, in breach of the original agreement. I changed to BT Infinity.
Good luck!

Edit: BTW, don't be taken in by all that "honest Yorkshire folk/Hovis advert" bollocks. They are as ruthless as the rest.

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
A friend of mine recommended Plusnet a couple of years ago, quoting their UK based call centres and getting problems sorted quickly as their strong points, but since then I have heard a few stories that they have got poorer. I moved from Talk Talk to BT earlier this year, the BT Youview box is much better than TalkTalk's although it is newer and TT's may now be better itself.

On changeover day BT connected my landline to someone else's phone, which took a few days to resolve but other than that I have been quite happy. I am not kidding myself though, it seems to be a case of luck, I have heard so many horror stories about all these Phone / ISP / TV companies. They all seem to be capable of huge cock ups, and their prices seem to just keep going up and up.

I've been on Plusnet for about 10 years - with a year's break when there was a freebie deal at work.

I'm very happy with them. When I've contacted them (which isn't very often) they've been helpful and attentive. Personally, I've always used my own router / modem but the kit they provide isn't bad. I upgraded from ADSL to VDSL (copper to Fibre-to-the-cabinet) a year or so back. All went smoothly and I now have decent speed.

I'd recommend them.

I am fortunate to have very few regrets about wasted opportunities in my life.

However, a few years ago when we had a broadband contract with Talktalk i answered a knock on the door to find Dido Harding standing there asking me if i would be voting for her husband.

I was woefully unaware of her day job at the time.

Transferred from BT to Plusnet about two years ago. Absolute nightmare. The worst customer service I have ever encountered. It took about two months before I was online again. Since then, it's been fine. Good speeds and near-100% reliable. Might lose the internet once a month for a few minutes. Apart from that, fine.

I was with Plusnet, we were not getting great speeds or signal, complaints and requests for advice / improvements fell on deaf ears and when we told them that we were leaving, nothing at all. Cancelled the direct debit after the last payment and starting with Virgin and only then did they get in touch and ask what was wrong and could they do anything to tempt us to stay.

Moved from plusnet a few years ago due to their irritating traffic management. Now with Zen who don't limit or manage traffic but you do pay extra to get the better service.

. I believe its a major gripe of Sky that they have to use a network ran by their competitor.
That's not true. They have their own equipment in many exchanges, so it's only the copper wire from the exchange to your house that they share with bt.

If there are no free ports on sky's equipment or the local exchange hasn't unbundled then you may be forced onto Openreach equipment.

Google tells me sky is doing fibre now.

Never been with Plusnet, although I endured 10 years of nightmare with BT and then TalkTalk.
I'm in the sticks so could only ever get 0.5mbps due to distance from the exchange, and spent several hours per week on the phone trying to solve connection problems. I had regular groundhog days.

Then I signed up with Boundless Networks on the first day it was available in my area.
It's wireless broadband and phone service - comes in via a small antenna on the roof.
I get 99.999% reliable connection and speed.
10mbps minimum which what I pay for. I could have 20mbps if I paid more.
In 3 years I have had cause only twice to raise an issue about slow speed. Just raise a ticket online or phone and it's been fixed in 2 - 3 hours.
As it's wireless, my landline is now redundant and I pay no line rental.
Costs me circa £37/mth for limitless broadband use and all phone calls and it's worth every penny compared to the alternative nightmare.

Just raising awareness of this service in case anyone in northern England is having problems with landline broadband.

Handy upload speed! I typically get 13-15 Mb/s download but never more than 0.8 Mb/s upload.

PS I forgot to get in touch with you about that Garmin. I'll see if I can organise another ride out to Waddington before Christmas! :okay:

Been with them for nearly 10 years and they have always provided a reliable, speedy internet connection. When I did have problems they were helpful in resolving. Routers are not the best, although the latest fibre router is not bad. Price always appears to go down every year, or the service improves for no extra cost - as long as you ask. If you switch now you may get caught up in the black friday bow wave, but my transfer to fibre was seamless last week.

I've been with Virgin for years, no cludgey old BT phone lines and just tested at 89mbps download speed (on my phone through Superhub2 wifi).

So it is true, it is their competitor's network just not all of it, the bit of it from the exchange via telegraph poles (or other means) to the house/flat :okay:

Spooky or what?
10 mins after posting my glowing review about Boundless, my connection dropped and it's still down
I can't remember the last outage so I'll let them off.
I rang this morning and spoke to a gent who spoke English very well. He told me the reason for the problem and offered to ring me when he knows what time service will be resumed. The problem is quite localised to my area.
