Good idea. At least that way you'll never end up doing a 12 or a 24.
One of my clubmates (Wilko) holds the record for the 24, and probably the 12 as well. There would be no point even attempting to live up to his achievements!

Having said that, I can feel a tiny niggle where the bug may have bitten...

Hmm... Given that you have speed, and that you know it's supposed to hurt, I suggest you have a chat to your club coach.

Went off at one minute intervals and had a feeling I'd catch the rider in front so focused on reeling them in, which I did in the first 4 minutes or so. I definitely went off a bit fast but realised early enough and managed to get into a steady tempo. Definitely gave it everything... I was dribbling all over myself on the home straight and panting for what felt like half an hour at the finish line. The route was only two miles from my house and it definitely helped that I knew the roads.

Well I'm not sure how I can improve on that one!

Mixed feelings. Part of me never wants to be in that pain again, but it was a really great feeling to have people telling me I was still top of the pile when more and more riders came in.

The biggest problem now is that despite all the guys in skinsuits, TT bikes costing £000s and teardrop aero helmets, I beat them all on a Boardman Team carbon with a cracked saddle, standard non aero ritchey wheels that don't even have bladed spokes, and a £30 set of profile aero bars that look like the ones Lemond used to beat Fignon back in the 80s! How can I stop myself spending money to get even better times!!

Well done that is a very good time and OK it was probably pretty good conditions as evening tens go. As you ride a TT your times will come down anyway as your learn how to properly pace yourself and ride the course so if you do do them again yourt time will improve without any specific training other than riding a TT each week.

A local ish ten to me does half distance TT's early season these are 4.6 miles and the quickest came in at 10.39
an 11.43 would have got you 7th Place in that. It is a large club and there are some extremely good riders in that club.

Looking forward to hearing about your next one yes the pain is bad during but the endorphin rush afterwards afterwards is excellent.

With a time like that and a bit more of actually I would get yourself into some opens, you will raise some eyebrows.

Le Jogger just perusing that site again and I spot one of the members of my club posted an 11.03.

Bearing in mind that the distance is 0.4 miles shorter course your time would be akin if not faster than his. He races at Cat 2.

You could make the assumption that it is a super fast course, however if that was the case then all times would be fast not just yours.

I don't think it's a super fast course, in fact most of the guys came in saying they found it much harder than the local 10. There's no real lumps but the last couple of miles are a mainly a drag.
The Strava link comes in at 4.8 miles but my GPS time came in at a few seconds less than the official time.. I don't think the start and finish are precisely right but here's the link if you're interested. http://app.strava.com/segments/1689546
Only one other racer has posted their time so far.

I know in my club there are guys who would obliterate my time if they'd turned up... I guess I got pretty lucky in that respect, but overall I'm really happy with that as a first attempt and especially using such standard equipment compared to most of the others. I also know I can get fitter, I can improve my fitness and definitely improve my position on the bike, so I guess I'll keep at it and see what happens.

Well done on the time and the win!
I've never done a proper TT, only some informal ones the triathlon club organises... I totally agree about the weird pleasure of beasting yourself until it is all you can do to get off the bike safely afterwards...
