Last year I bought a bike on the C2W scheme. Long story, turned out the frame was too small, Halfrauds wouldn't change it, so this year wife gets the Sirrus and I'll try again.
I want a bike that is good for long rides (when I get up to that level), over 50 milers, also good for a commute, 7 - 14 mile each way depending on whether I take it on the train and where I get off. Maybe also good for cycle paths and hills. I live around the Goodwood area, hilly with trails.
Budget has got to be £500 no more (got the helmet, pump, etc) I have to go through Halfords but they can source most bikes. They got my Sirrus last year, this time I'll order the right size as the basturds don't change it if it's not one of theirs.
I was thinking a

and adding mudguards and panniers for the commute. Also thought of the subway but was thinking maybe not so good on hills and for a long ride.
All advice welcome as I want to get it right this time.
Cheers
