Thanks @Bazzer

I'm on day 16 without a smoke & it's not too bad. I'm on the patches though but still, I can at least breathe. And so can everyone around me.

Although the bike has been delivered pretty much set up the gears are not working as they should. I've never worked with hub gears before but I'm sure I know where I can find some good advice ;)
If they're not working, do your damnedest to fix them (probably under the shipper's instruction) because running any gear hub out of alignment is a quick way to wreck it. http://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=103245 and similar searches on that forum for Nexus contain lots of good tips IMO.

I just didn't realise just how bloody fast I have to move for the air to cool me down.
There's a sweet spot at any particular air temperature where if you go slower then you're not getting enough air past to cool you, but go too fast and you're generating too much heat for any amount of air to cool you quickly enough - and it always catches up with you when you stop, so try to pick routes that don't involve much stopping!

I've fixed the gears already & they're now changing perfectly. I knew they would be easier to adjust than derailleurs but I didn't get just how easy they'd be. Excellent.

Yeah, I know what kinda speed to go at and we often get the Mistral here so when it's blowing the air cools pretty well. Some days though, when it's calm, it can hit 40C and to be honest, I'd rather just not go out. Thank God for air-con.

Thanks for the tips.

Shimano's align the yellow dots hub gear adjustment is one of their better designs.

My Alfine 11 is very fussy, even one click on the adjuster barrel makes a difference.

I believe the eight speed is less fussy, but it may be something you need to keep an eye on.

Easy enough to give it a click now and again, even while riding.

I was out last night & did 20km without a single fluffed gear. On a relatively new cable I'm very happy with that.
