The somewhat uncomfortable looking* carved stone seat in Burnthouses, at the junction of Scotland Lane and the 'main road', Burnthouses Lane. It may have been one of those Millennium projects, but I can't remember, although the Millennium was quite a long time ago now wasn't it . It depicts a ploughman and a team of oxen. *I've not actually sat on it.
Yes, the orange grips on the bar ends, I know , they're off my other Trek and will hopefully be replaced with some appropriately blue coloured ones shortly. The bike's had a couple of new tubes in since the first test ride, with Presta valves. The previous Schrader valves were tight in the rim holes and were barely long enough to get the pump attachment over. I'm not used to flat pedals though, my first test ride was OK as it was dry, but this time it was boggy over Cockfield Fell and once my shoe bottoms got wet there didn't appear to be much grip resulting in a loss of confidence. It's strange how you get used to riding with SPD's / clip-in road pedals ~ when I first got some (white Look ones) in about 1986 or 1987 it didn't feel comfortable having my feet attached to the bike to start with, now it's the opposite.
