I have made a large pot of curry.
I have loads of the oblong containers together with separate lids.
I have just spent 30 minutes trying to match them. I managed to get 5 that fit but have maybe 10 mismatched that will not marry up.
I have just asked my granddaughter to have a go. If that fails I will have to bin them and start again.
How does that happen.

If you're talking about the ones that takeaways come in, we've accumulated loads. There seem to be lots of different makes and some are almost but not quite the same dimensions. We tend to keep a few of the best ones, just two types where it's obvious which lid goes with which box, and bin the rest. They go in the recycling.

Some year ago I found that I had lots like this - many inherited from my parents

I discovered that many of them were labelled to be OK in the dishwasher
unless you looked carefully - VERY carefully - whereupon one would discover that the base was OK in the dishwasher
but not the lid

WTAF!!!

anyway - what happend was that they would start of fitting but after a few goes in the dishwasher the lid would shrink about 1/10000 th of a micron and would no longer fit

And these were expensive ones

anyway - when my wife moved in and her "much better" ones arrived here then, after a while, we did a full audit of containers and matched up tops and bottoms and a load ended up at the tip
The rest are hand washed and mostly used to storage of simple stuff - e.g. not curry!

most of the stuff that goes in the freezer or is used for short term fridge use is from the takeaway

now - we have 2 takeaways that we use - Terry's and Paul's - both good
both give out chinese type stuff in the same plastic boxes with lids
well - I say the same - ALMOST exactly the same - but the lids on one will not fit the bases on the other - by about 1/1000th of a micron - but the don;t fit just enough to loook like they are ok but will come off when you turn your back

anyway - I have a rule - I only keep the takeaway boxes from Terry's as that is the closest and the ones we use most

they are actually the much better in that they are fine in the dishwasher for as many runs as I like on whatever temperature I want
and seem to last forever
and they stack easily in the freezer and fridge

but SWMBO wants the posher ones for storage where it might be seen!
(I didn;t say that)

anyway - I think that is the trick - settle on one takeaway and keep boxes from that one and no others

All Tupperware containers are connected by quantum, so the lids move through time and space. I suspect yours are in our cupboard because they certainly don't fit our lids.

Probably not quantum
closer to L-space for those who know about Disk World

if you ask for more details the reply will probably be Oook!

We had similar a while ago when I forced a clearout.. never did get my head around it.

You could take it as devine intervention to push you away from food-adjacent plastic, since an increasing amount of studies suggest they potentially leech all manner of cack into your food; potentially giving you tits and/or cancer.

Personally I'm slowly trying to get rid of all food-related plastics; which is sometimes easier said than done..
