The wife had it for 3 years
Extreme pain especially in the morning, or after resting.
She had cortisone injections with little effect.
Ultrasound treatment had no effect.
An operation was muted but they shy against it now, causes more problems than it solves sometimes.
Shoe inserts....no benefit gained in her case.
Painkillers were obviously well used.

In the end, it just went away of its own accord, which i gather is usually the case.
Oh, and high heels helped  ok if you're a woman  i suppose it keeps the weight off the heel, and with the same logic, flat shoes used to aggravate it.

Hope it only turns out to be a mild case brompton...

Update: I've just been to my third sports rehab massage. A more experienced person came and did some investigative work on my legs and feet. He reckons that I've been suffering for years and years with a back issue and that the plantar faschiitis, was the straw that broke the camals back, so to speak. He followed the nerves from my feet to my 3rd lumbar on both sides by pressing where the nerve is. On the left side it was total agony all the way up, on the right side there was no pain at all.

So the painful massages are to stop for now whilst he works on "learning my slider and nerve to be re-educated". This entails uncomfortable but tolerable vertebrae manipulation's.

So fingers crossed.

A lot of what he said made sense for some of my on bike discomfort and why it has been affecting my riding, so I'm going to stick on a stem extender temporarily to lift my bars up to saddle level. This will hopefully stop the occasional sciatica I sometimes get.

Update: another few sessions of spine manipulation later and things are vastly improved, so my gut feeling is that the rehab people are having more success than the podiatrist people. Who'd have thought a back issue that I didn't even know I had caused pain in my feet.

Still quite a way to go but definitely on the road to recovery.....yay. Oh and thank goodness crocs were invented, I seriously don't know how I would have managed without them.

Sorry to be blunt... But lots of people have given you the recipe to aleviate this.

Heel drops
Rolling a rolling pin/water bottle
Elevation at the end of a long day (above the height of your heart)

You could easily spend £20k on treatment over a number of years and tell yourself that you're doing something about it, but, bottom line, it's a self help issue. Regular stretching, sensible periods of rest.

Put it this way, if you have to do a daily 3 minute exercise at the top and bottom of every day, for the rest of your life, so what? You can do it while the kettle boils.

I know it sucks, I know there is pain involved, but don't think it's a problem that money and experts can solve any more than you can manage yourself. It wont be instant. But it will work.

Glad to hear it Shaun - I was about to PM you to see how you were getting on!

I can manage to walk to cafes in Hebden Bridge now so if you are ever cycling through and fancy a coffee break, give me a bit of notice and I'll try to get out to see you. (I went out on Sunday to meet Steve H on a mid-audax ride break.)

Yeah sounds like an idea. I'm gingerly back on the bike commuting, tho only 26 to 36 miles a day depending on which route I take. I haven't been to Hebden for ages. Might be able to manage Sunday but I won't find my shifts out until Wednesday ( manager forgot to do 'em and she not in till then).

Before giving me shoot, please read the posts.....I have been doing all of what you have suggested. And sorry but how is a trapped nerve to be self helped?

UPDATE: I took glucosamine tablets for 100 days and then tumeric since, it seems to have done trick. They still ache a bit if I've overdone it, but definitely on the road to recovery feet wise. It is nice to stand up in the mornings without being in total agony.

My heart goes out to all those who haven't managed to find a way to solve their plantar fasciitis issues.

I've had PF for 19 months, I stopped running because of it. Started cycling as needed to get back into exercise and hoped it wouldn't aggregate it too much.

Bromptonfb do you think the glucosamine and the turmeric sorted it out or did you still do stretches and rolling? was it a combination?

Nope no stretching I just stopped doing them. I read the research and glucosamine and tumeric are the only things that seems to be effective for everyone.....for some more effective than others.

The orthotics didn't work, the sports massages helped but didn't work for my feet.

So IMO it was....but it takes 8 weeks to get upto therapeutic levels.

:bravo:I took the advice above and started taking glucosamine and turmeric and my PF has gone. Took a few weeks but after nearly two years my foot is better.
Thanks bromptonfb :highfive:
