Planned 40 mile ride - preparation?

The only other advice I can think of at the momentis, if possible carry 2 innertubes and just have a think about how you would get home if you had a serious mechanical.

Just to reiterate what has been said allready and add that i would make sure you take adequate clothing , its deceptively cold out there and personally i get cold cramps in my shoulders, and wear some king of ear protectors (like a wooly hat), save getting a blinding headache when you get home.
