I've given up and refitted the Ultegra brakes, which are much more powerful; I can endo the bike from the hoods with no trouble. Try as I might, I can't get the CNC brakes to perform like the forged and there's definitely an 8-10mm difference in the leverage between the two. They're going on Ebay on Sunday.

With Aluminium, forged is best. Ally has a crystalline structure which, in the forging process, is aligned to the shape of the component. Machining a part out of a billet doesn't give the same result unless it's heat-treated afterwards. Having said that, a machined part probably won't be noticeably less rigid, just more prone to breakage.
