Erm...on the way to Schiehallion last weekend we passed a signpost for a village called 'Dull.' Damn my lack of camera, damn it !

Best one on the list for near me is probably Wetwang...

I think the late unlamented Richard Whiteley was Mayor of Wetwang for a while...

More famous in my circles for the Iron Age chariot burial found there...

Elmer Fudd

Miserable Old Bar Steward
Close to me are:-
Pity Me
No Place
Spital Tongues
Fanny Barks
Hairy Side
Slag Hill
Cock Bush Hall Farm
Shitligton Head
Crackpot
Cock Heads
Bitchagreen
Cock Play

In Worcestershire is Pink Green (can they not make their minds up ?)

And on the way to Newquay is a place called Indian Queens !

This is for my parents' postcode. Some of these are hilarious:
Looks like your parents must live near me. I live in Urmston, Manchester with an M41 postcode... and pretty much all of those appear on my list of strange nearby places.

My parents have some nice ones too in the depths of Derbyshire:

Jughole wood
Hole in the Wall
Cottagers
Butthole Lane
Dirty Gutter
Shatton Moor
Butty Moss
Penistone
Foul End

and the marvellous sounding...

Shafton Two Gates

One can only wonder at the gymnastic capabilities of the people who named the last place!!

My parents live in Ramsbottom. Genuinely! In actual fact for those sniggering people amongst you, Ramsbottom translates as 'valley of wild garlic'. Rams = garlic; bottom = valley. So there. And yes it's a very garlicky place.
Not too far from Urmston though...

Well, I know the picture-postcard village of Fulking (nestling at the foot of the Downs near Brighton) well - often cycle through it - for some unfathomable reason the place-name signs as you enter the village are on 12-foot posts, not the waist-height ones more usual in Sussex...;):biggrin:

What many non-local people, intent on a visit, may not realise at first, is that the road leading into the village from the north carries a dire warning - just in case - er - what is inspired by the placename goes badly wrong. It's called...

...Clappers Lane.

(as many people probably know there's a much more dramatic example in Austria)
