Picking the right bike?

Hi, I'm new to this and was after a bit of advice. I've really wanted to get into road biking for a while and feel like now's the time. I've been going through so many different bikes online and I'm starting to confuse myself.

I've got a budget of £600 I want to just the bike on a daily basis for a 8 mile each way commute to work. Along with longer weekend rides. I'm 6foot 5 so I'm after something hat will fit me but still has some speed! The two bikes I've been looking at are are the Giant defy 3 or 4 (depending on price) but I think I'm leaning for towards the cannondale synapse! Can anyone give me any advice, am I looking at decent bikes or are there any others I should be looking at.

You need to have a go on both of them mate and see which fits you better or you may find neither of them fit you at all ?. Unfortunatly you will get Giant owners telling you the Defy is better and Cannondale owners telling you the Synapse is better lol.

Me i will tell you the Specialized Allez is worth a look thats what i will be getting with my next C2W voucher lol

The giant fitted me and felt better.

Go ride them if you can, all are good.

Thanks for the replies. I know I need to try them. I've been to my local bike shop and they don't seem to ever have any of the bikes I want in the largest size so it's hard to try them out properly.

From what I have read about the specialized I think I might be struggling with my size. Are the giant and cannondale quite similar with the more relaxed geometry?

I'm guessing that the specs on all three bikes are quite similar?

Do you have an Evans near you? Apparently they are good for test rides?

Evans will order the right size bike for you to try on a refundable deposit. If you don't want the bike at the end it's no problem and if you do it gets knocked off the final amount to pay. I did this as I needed a small frame lol. Oh and incidentally I ended up with a womans specific Cannondale Synapse
