These are essential for keeping the mind occupied; what's the point of sitting there staring into space?

How long do you spend in there? You're supposed to push you know? Gravity will only get you so far! ;0)

I'm always amazed by people talking about 30 minute dumps - I'm typically in and out in less than 2 minutes. However, I think if you've been following Nick's posts over the past couple of years, you'll realise that his extended bog trips are probably more a sign of how he feels about his job and coworkers than the state of his bowels...

I want some that I can carry around in a pocket. Classic literature and the like. For reading in the bog at work.

I'm sure there used to be lots available, but can't seem to find any contemporary miniature editions. Does anybody know of any?

If you add 'pocket' to your search on Amazon, you get offered 'pocket classics'

eg. Walden, Pride and Prejudice etc.

Nick, why don't you buy a Nintendo DS lite ~£100 (or new DSI) and:
100 classic books ~£16
http://www.amazon.co.uk/100-Classic..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1237219977&sr=1-1

42 classic games... http://www.amazon.co.uk/42-All-Time-Classics-Nintendo-DS/dp/B000FW64ZS/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_h__img_c

The DS console is easily pocketable (mini ao has one); I have the 42 classic games...

Yes. So...

I want some that I can carry around in a pocket. Classic literature and the like.

Should really be:

"I want something I can sneak into the bog without my boss seing. Any old crap will do."

Classic literature? I mean do you really expect us to believe you are goingto sit on the toilet at work reading Shakespear? ;0) Why not get a Nintendo DS lite? Smaller than any paperback and no end of games I'm sure you would like. What about this one?

WTF is the excuse for this post? No one is fooled by the winking smiley. I expect it's another one of your "jokes"...

Nick, if that doesn't work for you, why not try learning the French horn?
The trombone is reckoned to be a lot easier, and only appears in the sort of music I like

This Nintendo thingy - it's not really me, you know? However... if it can be persuaded to accomodate books other than the 100 on its cartridge (80 of which I am guaranteed not to fancy) it might work. The disadvantage, of course, is that it would only be useful for bog reading - I couldn't possibly be seen in public with it, after all...

I don't know. I know quite a few adults who openly use them. There are lots of games targeted at grown ups, like the IQ type ones, and even cookery programs. I would use one in public, no one gives a toss.

TBH I'm not totally convinced that I'd enjoy reading large amounts of text off a screen, and quite a small one at that. It's quite impressive to have that amount of literature on a DS cartridge though, and for £16; but as you say there are notable omissions.

It's 'me time'. My OH likes a foamy bath with candles, I just prefer a dump.
