Quick question.
Anyone know of a dirt cheap prepaid SIM card deal available?
I'm after a one off payment just for a very few texts and calls for a limited time, with the option of renewal if needed.
Preferably for around a fiver or less.
Don't want contract or PAYG.
Not fussed which provider.
Anything out there?

Lebara, either order a free SIM on the website, or pick one up from a convenience shop. Top it up with a fiver. Use it until it runs out or top it up and use it some more. Or you can order a SIM with the credit pre loaded.
Their call and text rates are really cheap.

If you don't want a contract then it's PAYG that you'll be getting. There's no third option (well, other than an unactivated SIM card).

Edit: Sorry, beaten to it.

I know you're not after a contract Papa Dirk, but some of the SIM only deals work out much cheaper that PAYG in terms of minutes, texts or data per pound.

I'm on contract on my main phone - £5 a month for 2gb, 500 minutes, 5000 texts. This is with Talk Mobile. I'm quite happy with that.
I just basically want to load another phone with enough stuff for a basic call and text occasionally and don't want to keep topping it up.

Will talk mobile not provide a second sim on the same account?

I need a different number on the other phone. Dunno if they would do that on the same account. I'll have to call then tomorrow.

Quite often the companies offer family packages
I've contacted my provider via their help chat.
First I was told that it was no probs having an extra line and it would cost me £6 a month to have my current package spread over 2 different numbers.
Got to the point where I was about to commit to the new contract, asked for confirmation of exactly what I would get, and it turns out that it would actually cost me £11 a month for 2 phones on one account!
Indian call centres!
I'm not taking that deal.

Cannot speak for Talk Mobile, but, Tesco Mobile (O2) do multiple phones on one account. Each phone can have a different "package", and, each phone has a different number of course. In addition, having multiple phones on one account gives "family perks", such as discount, extra minutes, data etc. It is possible to "cap" each Phone, to prevent an excessive bill from being run up. Plus, you can get Tesco points, on your club card, which can be used for various discounts, including Ferry and Tunnel fares.

One point, which you may already be aware of, most (but not all) none contract SIMs have a "condition " such. as a paid for call must be made at certain intervals, a top up must be made within set intervals. Most of these conditions are hidden in the small print, so, beware!
