I thought the Peter Kaye show last night was excellent, I'm not a particular slave to his other shows and not really aware of what Phoenix nights was all about.
Looking forward to TV Burp returning though!

I'm a big fan of Peter Kaye (and Harry Hill for that matter). Particularly liked Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere, plus his stand-up routines.

Last night's programme was a sublime work of genius. I wonder how many people flicked it on halfway through and thought it was a genuine talent show?

That's half the problem though, isn't it? How do you parody the X-Factor, when it's all but descended into self parody in any case (nasty Simon, the crying people who get through and don't, etc etc)

Not a fan myself.

On the upside though (as I believe the young people say) Mr. Harry Hill is back with TV Burp soon...

I find Harry Hill about as funny as Peter Kay. Which is to say, not at all.

I enjoyed last nights programme. I have watched and enjoyed Peter Kay's standup, but never got into Phoenix Nights until we were on the plane coming back from Cuba to Manchester. The Captain announced he was going to put the DVD on and the plane cheered. It was a great atmosphere!

I take your point, but it was billed as an affectionate parody, which is exactly what it was. If you're looking for edgy comedy then Kay's never been your man. Still, I loved the Mandela/ Umbrella medley, and "2 up 2 down".

Incidentally, BrokenTV has calculated[1] the amount of time wasted by people waiting for Peter Kay to become funny again

Quite a lot of British time that could just as easily be spent grouting walls or baiting badgers, we're sure you'll agree. But when you factor in the viewing figures for last night's Kayathon, things get really staggering.

....

That's right. The people of the UK have wasted an aggregate total of almost 1.5 billion minutes waiting for Peter Kay to start being funny again. No wonder the economy's knackered.

Full article, and methodology here.
