I think I might have passed quite closely on my ride down to Devon.
I thought you were going to North Devon. My son lives in Totnes, so will probably ride down again later in the year.

I have been avoiding that road (the A377). I didn't like the look of it (from a cycling perspective) when my friend and I drove up it. My nephew told me that there had been 2 serious accidents on the stretch between Cowley Bridge and Crediton in the first year they had been living down there, and while we were there the road was closed after a collision between a motorcyclist and a car at Cowley.

When I came home I checked the data - it doesn't look good! This shows the record for 2016-2020:

I use the lanes parallel to it instead... Cowley, Upton Pyne, Jackmoor, Winscott Barton, Sweetham, Wyke Cross, Creedy Bridge, Crediton.

Absolutely right.
Back in the '80s it was our race track...how quick from Exeter to Crediton and then back from a night in the pub. Would never cycle it. Foot to the floor on the 'Newton Straight' to pass as many trucks etc. as possible. We had enough close shaves but never learnt....
My mate Floyd rode a motorcycle, me and my sister in my Dad's Ford Escort van followed him back from the pub one night when a Mini van overtook us at the Newton end of the straight, as we turned the bend the Mini was upside down with a motorcycle helmet underneath it. As we screeched to a halt fearing a flattened Floyd we noticed it was not his helmet, but a lose one that had been in the back of the mini...for a few seconds the very worst ran through our minds....

It's not my favourite and I'd probably avoid it during rush hour, but we rode it last Saturday in moderate traffic without any hassle. The Wheelers often ride 'The Triangle': Exeter, Crediton, Bickleigh, Exeter.

It's not my favourite and I'd probably avoid it during rush hour...

You definitely wouldn't catch me riding it in rush hour - a couple of times I was coming back via Exwick and found that 200 m on the A377 in rush hour was enough for me!

@Trickedem. That's why we have to go for short stays in the camper...the rest of the time we can stay in the cultured part of the county....
