So you mean the size of the pedal or it’s thread?I haven old Raleigh firefly and want to change the pedals ,and not sure what size to get . Can someone please help
there was a recent thread over about 57 pages advice on removing pedals. it all starts with a decent pedal spanner to get good leverage and being aware that the left hand pedal has the opposite thread (clockwise to loosen) - use the search function to find it to save a repeat......Removing old pedals can be a challenge. If you haven't got a decent pedal spanner, it could be cost effective buying and fitting via your LBS.
Hello and to the forum Steve.
Its a vintage rigid mountain bike so rat traps would be in keeping but you could fit any you fancy, flat or dual sided with SPD one side and flat the other.
You’ll need a 15mm spanner but as above LH side has reverse thread so undo both sides with the spanner turning to towards the rear of the bike, that way you can’t go wrong. Your cranks will have a standard thread.
If they’re a bit stubborn give the spanner a ‘tap’ with a hammer.
alternatively... never push a spanner. That's what I was taught as an apprentice mechanic. And when doing this, make sure you have the chain in the big chainring at the front and a rag wrapped around the hand that is pushing the spanner. may sound daft but will help avoid if the spanner slips or if the pedal suddenly gives.
