Hello again.I've just bought my wilier montegrappa. It's brand new, no marks what so ever I'm so pleased and I got it for an amazing price. Only thing is I need some standard pedals for it. What are half decent ones I don't have shoes or anything and can't afford to go down that route at the moment.

Also are all fixing for pedals ie the thread all the same?

something like this?

You can ride with normal shoes to start with then get some SPD shoes later if you want conventional looking shoes that you can walk around in.

threads are standard as far as I am aware.

Lovely bike by the way

I like the idea of them pedals. I do want to get shoes one day, just can't afford at the mo. Are there any other pedals out there which are just as good for that sort of price?

Clipless is the way to go IME, and nothing else is quite as good.

However, I appreciate your funds are tight so have a look at THIS selection of flats pedals to tide you over.

Check out eBay as well, people often sell the stock pedals that come with many bikes, and they always go for cheap, something like THIS, or new like THIS.

Worth watching one like THIS too, they are clipless pedals, but they have a platform on one side you can use until you get some shoes.

Probably worth starting a thread in the WANTED classified too, you might be surprised what people have in their spares box.

I use MTB platform pedals on the bikes I ride without spd shoes, the pins provide lots of grip. DMR V8's are good and have a greaseport, keep them pumped full of grease and they last well (can also be overhauled).

I would not go with dual function pedals unless you have to, you won't get a lot of grip on the platform side, and as a beginner spd user a double-sided spd pedal is easier clip into.

The standard pedal thread is 9/16".

As I say I want a pedal with the option of a flat side and a clipless function for when I do get shoes. I'm new to this so not sure what is best set up for me. So any help is great.

So the m505 ones once I get shoes I guess I remove the platforms?
Yuuup
I like the look of the a530 pedals though.
They are a nice looking pedal, not one the purists would fit on your bike, but it's your bike, if you like them fill your boots, they all do the same job

PS: see my post on your bike thread HERE about my pedals you can have if you want them:cheers:
