Hello, another one whose decided to start cycling again after 20 years or so. Would like a little help/thought on a problem with my bike.

It's a (2nd hand) Dunlop Special Edition (sold in Sportsworld, so nothing special really!). Both pedals were broken on it, which I replaced. When pedalling they are both wobbly...but to the naked eye in the same fashion. The cranks look perfectly ok - although the style is with a slight curve. My question is what maybe wrong or do some bikes have cranks that need particular pedals angled in specific way (if you get what I mean)?

There are specific left & right pedals, sorry if this is too obvious!

Haha, I don't mind obvious but I know about that. Thanks anyhow.

I might swop them over and see - just in case. Left and right depend on which way you view them!

Sounds to me like it could be the bottom bracket, is it just the pedals that wobble, or the pedals and cranks?

I wonder if my use of 'wobble' gives the wrong impression. What I mean is the pedals give the optical illusion of wobbling as they do when cranks are bent. The cranks don't look bent and the fact that both pedals do the same 'wobble' suggests the cranks are the in the same positions and therefore unlikely to both be distorted/damaged the same way. The pedals were taken off a different bike and were fine on the other bike.

Swapping pedals from left to right and vice versa is not possible as they are threaded differently; left pedal - right hand thread ; right pedal - left hand thread.

Is it possible that the pedal threads on the cranks are not perpendicular?

I'm inclined to agree with Bayerd - it may well be a bottom bracket issue. But this is a bit of a headscratcher!

:sad:SORRY!

slight brainstorm. Should read : left pedal - left hand thread
right pedal - right hand thread

hope you haven't tried removing them already.:girl::blush::thumbsup:

Nothing is loose or rattling etc and it all seems .

This however this is going to sound really weird given the post about left not going into right etc.

I've swopped the pedals round and it's all but eliminated the problem - a slight negligible 'kink' in one whilst pedalling. Maybe I'm just getting used to screwing them in straighter!

Thank you all for your advice and contributions. Being the novice I am I'm sure I'll be back!

The pedals should be marked somewhere if they are "L" or "R". There really shouldn't be any kinks if they are on the correct crank, this would indicate something else is not quite right. Bottom bracket or pedal bearings as others have said.
