Right I'm looking at getting some pedals and shoes for my cyclocross bike that I use mainly for rides with the family at the moment but I'm going to be doing some longer rides soon with training starting for lejog.

So i want some clip in pedals and then I would like a trainer type of shoe that i can walk around in.

So what do people recommend please?

m 520 pedals or m 530s if you want a bigger platform .
Shoes?
btwin get a good reviews or specialized sonama, my personal favourite shoes atm are northwave as i find them excellent fit but of course shoes like sadles are a personal choice .

Specialised cadet is fairly decent for an SPD trainer type shoe. Not particularly stiff soled but easy to walk in.

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
Shimano m520's as mentioned and if you stick on a platform converter thing like I did, you can wear normal shoes/trainers.
The weight of the platform usually spins the pedal so that the spd side is face up ready for clipping into.
MTB type shoes can usually be walked in but in my experience, the cleat still protrudes beyond the shoes sole and so clickity clacks when you walk in them.
The platform converters alleviate that problem.

The M520 pedals are a super bargain and as good as the dearer pedals in the range. Depending on shoe budget I swear by the shoes I recommend HERE and they are goretex lined so waterproof against splashes or standing in puddles. Obviously they still fill up with water via the top in heavy rain :rain:

I’d go for Shimano SPD-SL pedals, and these shoes.

They are quite pricey ( for Decathlon) but they are the measure of shoes that cost twice as much. I’ve got some at the moment, and they really are properly good. Carbon soles, Boa fasteners, and very comfy insoles and uppers.
Trouble is you can't walk easily in SPD-S/L shoes, which was the criteria given, really need to be SPD for that

Wants a trainer type shoe that he can walk in, road shoes mean waddling round on plastic cleats, covers or not.
