About to change the pedals on my road bike from the dreadful flat (with plastic straps) pedals that came with it, to some SPD-SL's.

Regarding greasing the thread, do i need to buy some specialist grease or will most types serve the purpose?

Any grease will work.

any old grease will work, but Coppaslip (or equivalent) is the proper choice - Given a lifetime's supply is perhaps a fiver, and siezed pedals are a right royal pain in the arse, I would get some coppaslip

ooh doubting myself now. I will have to look it up having previously assumed it should be coppaslip for this. mm

I bought a tub for £10 from Motorworld last year. Even with 4 bikes and 2 cars (use it on the wheel nuts once a year) to maintain, I expect to bequeath the remains of the tin to my descendants.....Must add it to my will......

Moly slip is the proper choice, though copper slip is acceptable. Any old grease is better than nothing, but isn't wholly satisfactory as under points of exteme pressure - such as the contact points between threads - it behaves like a liquid and simply flows away from where it's most needed.

I should add that just because you can use grease as a substitute for coppaslip, this does not mean you should use coppaslip as a substitute for grease as I've seen sugested.

You might put vaseline on a sore arse, but coppaslip would be less suitable I dare say
