I arrived home in a bit of a huff earlier this week having been out for a ride. Firstly a group of 4 or 5 what seemed to be club riders passed me out of nowhere. Not a word was uttered from any of them. I just get fedup with this competitive for want of a better word crap. Its almost always a quick glance over the shoulder and bugger off as fast as possible You just dont feel like you are part of something. I guess its just me and I need to start riding with a group which I would like to do.

It is just you. They were going faster then you, it's that simple. If you want to be part of of something, whatever that something is, then yes, join a group/club. Then you can do the overtaking bit and be just as competitive.

I dont want to be competitive I just enjoy being out and riding. It does please me to see how much faster I get week on week though. Maybe deep down I didnt like being passed but it was honestly more the fact that not a word was spoken.

The former rather then the latter methinks. What did you expect them to say/do? Apart from an 'on your right' maybe, stop and invite you to the pub for a beer and a chat? They sound like club cyclists working as a chain gang. That needs concentration.

Why are you so upset that random people didn't speak to you?

It was the tip of the iceberg Ian from a day of feeling like there was a general lack of friendliness. A couple months ago just to add a positive note a group of guys passed me and wished me well. I asked if I could have a lift for a short while as we were into the wind and they were more than obliging.

Im honestly not trying to be negative and I always make an effort to say hi or give a wave.

Then you did your bit.
The key is to then not let it get to you or upset that others doesn't respond. Life goes on, your ride goes on. For everyone that doesn't say hello or return a greeting there's always someone else that does to re-balance the karma.

I've had a club ride ask me if I want to join them , in fact it's happened a couple of times, once was one I helped a straggler get back to his mates, the other was a proper cycling club, different ages, styles and bikes out on a pootle. Told 'em both to feck off.

whats even worse is an electric car no way can you hear the things they just appear out of nowhere a cyclists nightmare.

Unlike a certain T V Chef!
