Anyone here done it? If so what was it like, advice on kit etc.....

I'm taking a tour company package with a mate which includes everything, so the only thing I have to worry about is myself and the bike. I'm taking my CX bike with fat road tyres on. I've currently got 28c gatorskins on, but they aren't the most supple of tyres, so was thinking about maybe some 24c Vittoria Evo Pave, or the older Vittoria Pave CG at 27c with latex inner tubes to try and avoid the dreaded snakebite punctures.

Any other recommendations for the Pave? I've got metal bottle holders, fairly strong wheels on, a decent semi padded saddle and plenty of time to sort it all out.

24mm tyres? On pave? The pros generally run at least 27/28mm (some ran 30s this year) so I'd think 28mm at least would be sensible, if not wider. If you've got clearance for 32/35 mm I'd go with that. Even the cobbles we get in this country hurt on 28mm (and the Arenberg forest will hurt a lot more than Brentwood high street).

I'm thinking about doing it, but hadn't got as far as thinking too much about the bike.

I've ridden cobbles in Flanders though and you need to make sure your bidons are a snug fit.

Will probably go for a recce later on in the year.
