It looked like 2 or 3mm in it to me, comparing the chord the tyres made with the red line on the finish photo.

Interestingly, Turgot was on 30mm tyres - would he have lost if he'd been on regular tyres?

As a bike rider youve got to admire Boonen's performance at one point 5 sky riders were drafting trying to close down for flecha and even they couldnt make progress thats incredible because they rekon 30 percent of your output is saved when drafting so how good must have boonen been to widen the gap? AND he had 4.5 hours in his legs at an average of 26mph before he went for it 50k out just beggars beleif how athletic these guys are.

It does look as if Boonan has put his problems from the last couple of years behind him, the form he is showing at the moment is quite awesome.

The other side of it is that Sky really weren't good enough and generally haven't been in the Spring classics so far. If they fall short in the GTs too this is going to be a rather mediocre season after all the hype around Cav's move.

More shocking for me is BMC's lack of success with Gilbert and Hushovd. Sky have actually done well so far this season.

I'm interested in cycling not blindly supporting any particular national interest.

The fact remains that both by the standards they have publicly set themselves and by what one would have reasonably expected looking at their squad, the classics have not been a success for Sky. Now, they may well do better in the GTs and other stage races to come - as they have already at Paris-Nice. We shall see. But at this stage Omega Pharma-Quickstep are kicking most other teams arses, also including as Raindog points out, BMC who also looked really something coming into this season. In any case there are still a few classics left for this all to change around...
