Parents paid to drive children to school

Although it's a bit much when the council have to put up large highway standard signs outside a ( posh ) school gate instructing parents not to park on the yellow zig-zag road markings - ! Hope the school had to pay for them to be put up - !

i was walking 2 miles to school from 6 ... but that was then,

Indeed. I'm also of the age when no-one was driven to school; we walked, bussed or biked depending on the distance. But obviously there was less traffic about, although some of today's traffic is of course, caused by parents who don't want to risk their wee blessing getting hit by a car - !
