Paperboy ramming his bike into my gates.

Would this annoy you or is it me? I've two wrought iron gates that are a bit old and the paperboy that goes next door doesn't open them with his hand he just rides his bike at the gates and rams them till they giveway. They are going to come off the hinges and his parents will be paying for new ones.
I keep hearing the gates crashing against the posts and I've told the paper shop before about this and I've been in and told them about it again today. I dont see why I'll have to buy new gates if he damages them and they are going to come off the hinges or break.
I don't even get a paper its next door but he comes through my gate because its smaller than next doors.
I'm going to tie them with a zip tie on Monday morning and watch.

A sign which says "A big dog lives here. It reacts to the gates being opened. You have been warned - DO NOT ENTER" should do it. Extra points for picture of said non-existent big dog - the one from The Hound of the Baskervilles should do.

Zip-tie to one gate. Zip-tie the two closed.

I'd imagine some kind of trap that activates of the gates are banged too harshly would deter them.

Try speaking to the boy.
It might work, it might not, but it's the easiest thing to do first.

Well, the shop has said they will speak to him and the gate is now locked properly with a bike chain wrapped tightly round it. I will see how it goes. A 16-17 year old shouldn't need to be told this is wrong. He stands there ramming the front wheel into the gates. He shouldn't even be coming down my path as I don't even get a paper.

Annoying as it is for you, there is a chance the boy doesn't even know his actions are damaging your gate, try talking to him, he might even be a nice kid.

Nice or nasty doesnt come into it. Its basic common sense really not to ram your bike into something.
