Im disappointed to find that the paint has rubbed off where the break cables touch the frame - how can you touch up there small imperfections?

Cover them with those little patches designed to stop that happening.

It's already happened though.

Patches would make the wonderfulness that is my bike even less perfect.

The patches are clear vinyl. Not much good it it's already scratched though, as you say. Fitting the headset to my new frame a couple of weeks ago I managed to chip the paint at the top of the headtube, however a small Union Jack sticker on either side of the tube managed to actually look quite fetching.

Decals are an idea I suppose, thought these are very small and hidden by the cables. It would have to fit with the overall aesthetic.

I'm disappointed given that it's internally cabled in the first place.

Can I assume from the fact no one is suggesting any kind of touch up paint that it is impractical in some way?

If you can find some paint to match it, then go for it. But without the patches, the same thing will happen again.
