I meet up with an arrogant twunt on a bike every morning when walking my dog on a path in the local park pre 6 a.m.
I don't *know* if it's a shared path but since he, me and the dog are sharing it, IMO, a bit of curtesy extends both ways. I did initially move off the path, but with his speed and without the odd thank you (well, a 'morning' would suffice), I found that a couple of blasts in the face with my Cree torch did the trick. He still doesn't acknowledge me but now I don't move out the way and he has to slow down.
I do the same path coming home from work but now it's pitch black and there are usually a few peds about, I stick to the road or slow down to virtually a walking pace.
When I take the dog walking along tow paths, I make her sit at the side and let cyclists come by. 9 times out of 10 a cheery wave or thank you is received, When I'm out cycling with the dog along the tow, I get off the bike, call her to sit and cyclists and other peds are always given way to.
To me, it's just about good manners and ultimately, the safety of all concerned.
