After sleeping on it, I've ordered a pair of these - I'll let you know what I think when they arrive.

Thanks all.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Watch out for these returning.

5000 miles and still A1.
And the stitching is all fully intact. Unexpected. That 1 single review is a fair commemt.
These are fantastic. They are my 'go to' mitts. I don't know how they differ from 'cycling' mitts. Lots of leather 'fitness' and weight-lifting gloves with leather palms available too - eg http://www.sportsdirect.com/golds-gym-gym-mesh-black-gloves-762516?colcode=76251603 - and they tend to be cheaper than bike specific ones too.

The Giro LX Performance mitts arrived today, and they seem very nice indeed - the sheep leather is lovely and soft (and smells great), and the fit is just about perfect for me. I won't be able to try them out properly until the weekend, but I'm pretty happy.

Thanks all, and special thanks to @User46386 for spotting them on offer at Evans - just an hour after I ordered them, my size was out of stock!

I've got a pair of Specialized 74 Short Finger Cycling Gloves (sadly no longer available) and to keep them supple I rub E45 into them after every ride. If E45 is good enough for human skin the it should be good enough for leather! The rumour is that Aston Martin use E45 on their leather interiors, don't know if it's true but I use it on my BMW seats and they come up a treat!

To keep them clean-ish I just put them under the kitchen tap every now and then, let them dry naturally and treat with E45.

Ah, interesting thought, thanks.
