I've been looking for a decent pair of fingerless mitts since I resumed cycling last year, and I've been disappointed so far. I've just worn out a pair of Grip Grab mitts after only around 400 miles, with holes in the fabric of the palms.

What I really want is mitts with padded leather palms that will last a long time - my last pair back when I was younger lasted for several thousand miles. I've always liked crochet backs, like track mitts, but I'm not insistent on that.

I'm not worried about cold-weather use as I have some Endura full-finger gloves that served me well last Winter.

So can anyone recommend any padded leather-palm mitts through their own experience? Alternatively, something with tough padded palms that will last close to the life of leather ones?

My budget is up to around £40 (though I could probably stretch it a bit if necessary).

(I've searched existing threads, but I haven't really found anything suitable)

Thanks in advance,
Alan

Loads of them on ebay. Don't know how long they last though. Too many variables. "Padded leather cycling gloves".

Yeah, I've seen a lot of very cheap ones on eBay. The thing is, there's a lot of very poor quality leather out there (I used to do some leather work myself, and you don't get good leather cheap), and I'm not really convinced you can make and sell good leather cycling mitts for the £5-10 or so that they're going for.

Endura used to do a leather palmed mitt which were very good, a quick search indicates they no longer do but you might find something on ebay.
I also spotted these:

Giro are a decent enough brand, and if you sign up for cyclestore newsletter they'll give you £5 off. But they only have size XL

I've given up expecting fingerless gloves to last more than a season. This may be because I wash them in the washing machine a lot.

So, I just get any type so long as they don't cost too much.

Sadly I need medium (I have quite small hands).

But they do look good, and a search finds them at Tredz (though for £55, but there's a £5 off offer there too). Hmm, that's one of the mostly likely candidates I've seen so far - I'd consider stretching to those. Thanks.

I bought some of these off ebay last year for £2 a pair.Yes, I know I'm a tight git. I got them for the gym. The leather was really hard and stiff. However with an application of many hours of sweaty lifting they softened up and are still going strong. However. They stink! Not really possible to wash them so tried cleaning them in various ways but they still stink. So I don't know how I would go on with leather cycling gloves. How do you clean them and stop them from sweating and stinking? Those Evans ones are very nice but I could not contemplate paying that amount of money, unless they were going to last many unstinkable years. [Refer to tight wad mentioned above]. I tend to lose gloves as well by the way and somehow get oil on them, so cheap washable/loseable synthetic it has to be. But I do like the look of those expensive ones. Hmmm.

Try some activated charcoal

And to the op @Alan O
If you do think of trying synthetic gloves as well,
aldi are due cycling items this month. They will probably have full fingered and lobster gloves but may have mitts.
Although I think they can be of varying quality, they might be worth a punt at about £3.99
