We have a lot of owls in the woods around our house, listening to their calls and comparing to online recordings, I’m fairly sure they are males (”hoo hoo”) and females (”shriek”) talking to each other.

Shriek is usually a barn owl. Tawnies are twit and twoo.

Barn owls make an indrebile stretch, mine don't sound like barn owls. They sound like this, but usually only one shriek at a time:
