"When you pass a rider, always give them room to fall off" E.Merckx, who knew a bit about cycling, and had the advantage of living in Belgium. Strict liability and all that. If you can't pass wide enough, wait. Not difficult, even if those behind act differently. NO patience evident on the roads really, is there? And then we get back to RLJ - another example of lack of patience and ignoring an inconvenient law.

Yep, that's how I was taught.

And anyone (especially a 17yo with no experience of driving my car) who waves me past "when there's a gap in oncoming traffic", will simply get ignored . I'll delay my overtake until I judge it is safe, that is the responsibility of the driver.

I sat behind them until we all got round the corner and I could see to pass. Yes, there was somewhat of a tailback behind me, but so what?

What I do too when driving, all of 150-200 miles a year

And when cycling? Anybody who holds back and protects my arse in that way gets a cheery wave and thanks.
