Overshoes are a 'consumable'?!

I expect material to wear down too, but not when the only walking I do is from my porch into my garage (about 10 feet), the od foot down at junctions and then from the works' cycle shed to the locker room, about 100 feet including three flights of vinyl-faced stairs.
As said, for the durability and lack-of-faff angle I've gone for winter-grade boots, just need the ruddy cleats to turn up now!!

Surely it depends on what sort of overshoes.

I only tried neoprene overbootees for one winter - hard to get one and off (over mtb shoes not road shoes, it has to be admitted), zip failing after a couple of months but nursed on to finish the season by which time the whole things were falling apart especially the soles, sweaty feet which quickly went cold if I stopped (so OK for a commute but not for longer rides). In general, windstopper + lycra overshoes have been more robust, lasting 5+ years, and are fine for cold dry or snowy conditions (and very cold with electric foot heaters) but not so good in rain.

So the upshot has been winter shoes - first Sidi then Shimano and now Specialized - which I wear for day to day cycling as they cope with walking around shops etc. better as well as easier to put on and off. But I usually opt for the windstopper overshoes + foot heaters for longer rides in cold weather (I tend not to do long rides when it's raining  - old age is turning me into a fair weather cyclist).

Tore the velcro in half taking my endura overshoes off after owning them for about a month. Still work though, but yeah, manufacturing quality of overshoes these days appears to be absolutely shocking.

I also have the Endura neoprene ones (well up untill yesterday when they went in the bin!). They only lasted 1.5 winters though. Bothe zips snapped and both developed many holes, usually around the toe area but then the seams finally tore all along one edge so in the bin they finally went.

Won't be buying them again thats for sure

I've had a pair of the endura road overshoes for 3 years and although they are showing signs of wear on each heal from rubbing on crank/frame and on each sole at the heal from when I've not put them on right, they are in pretty good shape. I don't have any problems getting them on and once on, I peel them over the toe so they don't come off very often. I would definitely buy again.

Edit - should add that I'm currently using the 6 days a week for commuting and training.
