What with suffering from reynauds i am looking into getting some overmitts that sit on the bars or breezeblockers.has anyone any experience of either or where i can buy the "pogies" for bicycles as my google fu only brings up canoeing versions.

I use gortex paclite pro shell over mitts for really cold windy wet days. They're pretty awesome, tho don't fit on the bars.

I bought a pair of military over mitts from E Bay about 3 years ago and recently lost them, so have just bought another pair. You wear gloves under them but the mitts keep off the rain and wind. It is the only thing I have found that does the job 100% effectively. They cost about a fiver and I use them on the bike and on the motor bike in all weather.

Glad this thread came up and looking forward to reading any more suggestions. I suffer badly with my hands as soon as it gets cold. Last winter I used the thin silk liner gloves with gloves on top that were supposed to be winter gloves but I still ended up with hands that got beyond cold. They eventually get so bad that they are numb and I can hardly move them to brake/change gear. They then get intensely painful when I do get back indoors and they start to warm up again.

They are saying this is going to be a really cold winter  so I really need to find something better this year. What about skiing or snowboarding type gloves......anyone tried and liked them?

Those mitts linked to above are similar to mine except, mine are green and paclite pro shell. As Steve says, they're very effective - I've used mine with some £3 tesco insulated fleece gloves down to -16 deg cel and my hands were still toasty.

On a push bike IMO it's all about cutting out the wind chill and rain. A bit more difficult on the body due to boil in the bag effect but on my hands and feet that's not an issue for me, so paclite goretex works well and doesn't take up much room in my bag when not in use.

Indeed , its the windchill that gets me, i have tried ski gloves and they are too warm as my hands get to sweaty.
