All cycle lanes should be removed. its enforces the stereotype that we're supposed to use them thus making drivers think we should never be out of them!
not to mention the motons who pass millimetres from you because they believe that because your in the cycle lane your safe, they don't give you room.
get rid of em all and spend the money on moton edumacation!

Plus encourage cyclists to pass on the inside of HGVs at approach to junctions.

I'm coming to the conclusion that motorists give cyclist less room when there is a cycle lane, its as if they think they do not have to move out as the cyclist must be safe in his own little lane.

yup, prime concern. the only cycle lane on my way to work is one that leads up to a roundabout.
as it gets to the roundabout it tapers off to nothing, thus cars believe its safe to stay up against that line giving me NO room to manoeuvre. i don't use it anymore, its a decent bit of road and nice and flat but damn i don't want to get flattened.

Here's a stretch of road I used today. As you can see, the local council have kindly painted the tarmac red to warn of dangers from car doors and pedestrians

That second one is completely bonkers! What on earth were they thinking?

isnt that the same as crompton way ?

ie , 'right lads, we've a problem theres loads of accidents on this dual carraigeway what can we do, bearing in mind we've no money?'

' err make it one lane and 40/30 and get some EU cycle lane grant by marking the left as cycle lane!'

so , people drive down side streets as its quicker than using the in theory 'ring road'... though, IF i ever cycled on it,, i'd be happier than when it used to be two narrow lanes!!

mind you, when i was a schoolkid crossing that road, i'd have appreciated any help getting across the dammned thing...

I don't think they were thinking. A local cycling campaigner complained and suggested that they could have "hatched off" a strip adjacent to the cycle lane, or just made a cycle bigger lane!

Not really. Whilst I have some issues with the Moss Bank Way setup; not least what they've done at the junctions, I think the bit that you showed is quite good. The difference here is that there is a good gap between the cycle lane and the shared lane, separated by a shaded area, which is not the case in the one that killiekosmos showed.

Edit: corrected a typo.

hmm . see what you mean..

still better than leaving at two lanes though ( when cycling ;) )
