SpokeyDokey

68, & my GP says I will officially be old at 70!

They said the measuring didn't tell them as much as talking to me about where I hurt. Anyway, I have now done just over thirty miles on the new saddle and can't see it being the one for me.

I will ask them to do the ID fit next time. Ouch

Blimey - I hope you didn't have to be too specific on where exactly the pain was!

Can't say that that shop sounds like they are on the money with saddle fitting based on what you say.

Glad you have finally had your 'bones' measured.

SpokeyDokey they asked me to show them on the saddle which part made contact with the painful areas! I thought this seemed a pretty clever way of dealing it. It will be interesting to see if the Specialized that should be the right size feels any better when I use it. Possible update tomorrow

Coming late to this thread it seems to me that the OP may be using shorts with too squishy a pad. A squishy pad will allow the sit bones to sink in and transfer weight to soft tissue, making that tissue sweaty and sore. That pad is really only supposed to prevent the shorts from creasing and rucking up; the next most important line of defence is a well-shaped saddle. Try a Charge Ladle, they are very good saddles.

I got myself checked as my Tifosi came with a Selle Italia and it turned out it was too narrow for my child-bearin' hips, and I'd done a couple of sportives on that as well! I'm not saying the Specialised I've got now is armchair comfy but it's a lot better than the Selle was.
The other thing is just to keep riding, it can take months to get the muscles built up which act as padding for your nethers

Gosh, sounds like you have had a time of it. When I got my new bike in January, it took a little bit of getting used to my saddle, but didn't take long. I have ridden about 400 miles since getting the bike, and now it is fine. The saddle I have is a women's specific - oval concepts R300, that came with the bike. I didn't have a measurement, but if I didn't find it comfortable, I would have gone back. I don't know if you can buy that type of saddle.
Good luck with the specialized, you need to be comfortable to enjoy riding

I did about 13 miles with the specialized saddle yesterday. I was by far the most comfortable ride to date.

Progress ^_^
Out of interest which Specialized saddle model is it and does it have a cutout?

This month's Cycling Active has a group test on women's saddles

This one got 10/10

I don't know if this is the same, just cheaper materials

Or indeed this older model

I tried the Vesta, I think it was the most painful one I tried but obviously that was just me personally!
