That's a brilliant HiFi setup that you have. I'm most envious !!!

Don't be. Hi-Fi, beyond a certain point, is largely a waste of time. You don't get any more pleasure out of the music than you would on a more modest system and it gets much harder to keep the system in balance.

The stuff you have is pretty good. Yes, the LP12 is a good record player but the Mantra is not too shabby either. In most systems you'd be pushed to hear much improvement. The Rega arms are brilliant. I've owned all of the Linn arms except the Ekos and the Rega arms are better than any of them.

Yes, my amps are from the same era as your Meridian CD player, before their stuff started sounding crap! Again, CD player performance hasn't actually moved on much since the eighties so your CD player would hold its own against the best available today up to about two or three grand. I think that generally Hi-Fi has not improved in the last twenty years and the quality at the lower/middle level is worse. The hype says better, the reality is cheaper. The really don't make stuff like they used to. I remember asking someone why they'd stopped making Isobariks and being told they were too expensive to make! Linn still make well built kit but the prices would choke a horse, and most of it sounds boring ;0)

I also aim to pick up BJJ in the nearish future.

Good fun - I did a little bit as part of an MMA class, I was rubbish, but the way it works (using position and leverage mostly as opposed to brute strength, although brute strength is good too if you have it) was fascinating.

I mostly tinker with bikes - I used to draw, did photography (along with the whole developing your own film thing) but no longer have the time. I still like reading, listening to music and watching films.
