Opinions please.

TYRES!
Continental GP4000 or Specialized S works.
Please advise me on what you would buy from an upgrade perspective.

I can't comment on those specifically, but I went from what I thought were fairly good MTB Conti's to Specialized Fast Tracks and the difference was amazing! The Specialized's are so much better.

I haven't used the Specialized S works, but I am very happy with the GP4000S (hardly any punctures and they are fast).

I have used the Conti GP4000 S and also the Michelin Pro4 Comp. I currently use / prefer the michelins. I appreciate they aren't on the list, but I highly rate them.

I've no experience of Spesh S works tyres but the Roubaix Armadillos my bike came with both disintegrated after about 2000 miles (The tread came off in big chunks). This also happened to the Spesh tyres supplied with my other bike. The Roubaix tyres were replaced with GP4000s, still fine after 4500 miles with no issues.

Sorry all but Conti's are way over rated. No longer would I use them - rubbish at the price. Michelin Pros in the summer. Vittoria Rubino (bomb proof) on the rear and Schwalbe Blizzard on the front in winter - both excellent and inexpensive.

Bike tyres are one of the things where the French really have got it right; Michelin Pro 4 all the way for me!

Continental Gatorskins have as much grip as a Jack Russell on kitchen lino, and IME Conti 4000S are flimsy to the point of beads separating from the rest of the tyre. I don't expect any Continental fans to agree with me but I have reasons born out of experience to avoid them.
