Although I'm Biased..I believe I made the correct choice, when part exed my Giant MTB for the new Hybrid Scott Sub 30.
I do all my Biking on roads or cycle paths, love the increased speed and prefer the stance to a proper road bike..although was close to getting a roadie.
What do you lot think..are we a minority breed as don't fit into either road or off road sections?

Be good to hear from all..especially other Hybrid owners.

I love my hybrid (trek 7500).

I would love a roadie, but my normal route would kill a roadbike as its bumpy / muddy / potholed etc. and the hybrid gives me a comfortable ride. I still hanker after a roadie, but i cant justify one with my fitness level and the poor road conditions where i live.

For the woods i have a mtb anyway.

I came new to cycling last year and i am very pleased with my hybrid, a 2011 trek fx 7.3. I've done over 4000 miles since i bought it last January. All road and urban usage. I would not have been confident when i started cycling on drops and 23mm tyres at first.

Hybrids are a great allrounder for getting people started and they can then chose to move on. It has got me to a position where I feel I am ready to move up to a road bike in the summer. i will keep the hybrid for winter commute and family hack riding.

I don't have one, but I've recommended various types of Hybrid to commuting friends and all are extremely happy with them.

They seem comfortable, swift, sure-foted, tough and emminently sensible to me.

Some people are bizarrely snobbish about them, but folk on this forum will be unpretentious cyclists who don't think that way.

I don't necessarily think hybrids are a strep "down"

In fact I've deliverately gone for flat bars over drops this time for my general use/commuter (well, at the moment sit-up-and-beg but I have a new stem and flat bars on the way to drop it down to a more aggressive position)

It just feels a little better for its intended purpose, which is mainly sub 10 mile urban trips with the odd detour, but mainly 3-5 miles with a laden trailer

I like my hybrid too - does everything I want on tracks, bridle lanes, paths, and the kind of off-road pootling I do; and does everything I want on the road - from commuting and shopping to piling it high with camping equipment and doing a 200 mile tour. Trouble free, comfortable; just an aging Dawes Discovery 201.

I love my Hybrid and think it's perfect for my commute, 5 mile Urban or I can also cross some heathland with gravel paths for part of my journey if i want to relax a little more. It has a rack, panniers, full guards and is nice and comfortable. Generally i only get passed by a guy on a Trek Hybrid who is much fitter than me ^_^

I'm currently saving for a Drop Bar to use for fitness / longer rides / sportives and those loveley summer days when i fancy commuting on it. Then maybe i can take Mr Trek on....lol

I have a 2009 Tricross. Although it is marketed as a "cyclocross" bike, to all intents and purposes it is a hybrid with drop bars. I enjoy the fact that it is a bit of a do-it-all bike, within reason. It will happily go on the road, and you can fit 23mm tires on it if you want. It will also go off road on wider tires; I have used it with 38mm tires fitted. It is happy on forestry tracks, but don't expect to be comfortable on it trying to do MTB style downhills! Yes I did try it, but never again. I have also used the Tricross for touring. It has mounts for mudguards and a rear rack (and mounts for a front rack too, but I am not brave enough to try it due to the carbon fork).
I also have a road bike (Specialized Secteur) and a MTB (Trek 6500) but if I could only have one bike it would be the Tricross by a country mile. So for me, it's a big  for hybrids!

I got a £300 hybrid as my first bike and use it solely for commuting these days. It's generally reliable and reasonably quick. I've never felt completely comfortable on it though which is my own fault for buying online. During this cold and frosty snap we are enduring i use the mtb for the commute purely because of the bigger tyres.
I reckon either later this year orearly next year i will replace the hybrid with another but from the lbs this time.

Marin Belvedere 700x28c here, upgraded from a Carrera Subway 26x1.6. Love it^_^

I've just finished my first month on it and its great, it deals with the on road commute a lot better than the 26" Sub and the little speed I lost when I've taken it off road on the rougher sections is minimal - the Sub' seemed a little more off road capable than the Bel'. I did a 55 miler and a 65 miler on mixed path last month and would only say on one or two sections or bumps I felt the rear bottom out a little, perhaps I may change to a 31 or 35 mm tyre but as yet undecided.

Only regret was my budget couldnt stretch to a decent bike wih simiar setup, but with drops, maybe next time as the day will come eventually when I can change to N+1 but I think I'll always keep a Hybrid handy.

I brought a 2nd hand boardman Hybrid Comp in October and I love it. I commute 10 miles each way 3 days a week and this bike is a joy to ride. It has 700x28c wheels which are good when I want to pick up a bit of speed and also good when the road isnt in the best of shape.

Ive just fitted (this morning) a rack and trunk bag with expandable panniers so that I can get my rucksack off my back. Hopefully this will make my commute even more enjoyable.

I had a Hybrid, but TBH, much preferred a roadie to it. The upsides to owning a nice roadie outweigh the downsides of owning a Hybrid. THe Hybrid felt like a lot more effort for the same pace and distance covered.

I have had my hybrid, my main commuter bike, for three years now but after riding a road bike during the summer I have realised that I could do better and plan to replace it this spring with a steel tourer.

I'm a recent convert to a hybrid style tourer. Have been using a traditional styled Dawes Galaxy for years, but have recently bought a Thorn Raven Sports Tour. Flat bars (with bar ends for a second position) MTB style frame 26 inch wheels with 1.75 tyres. I'm using it for day rides, weekend tours and audax rides, and I'm certainly pleased I've gone down this route.

Having the fatter tyres makes for a more comfy ride, without seeming to impact on sprightlyness, I no longer get numb hands and the more upright riding stance is easier on my aging body and better for admiring the views. Still got the Galaxy but its now mainly used as my town and shopping bike.
