Am pretty sure they will be - just check online.

I do know that many long distance cycle routes in Italy are very imperfectly signed on the ground, but the routes can clearly be seen on OSM.

There is lots of useful info on the OSM wiki above, & fortunately you don’t have to worry about creating a Garmin-compatible map yourself. There are lots of prebuilt ones which can be found via the wiki. Just download and copy the .img file of your choice.

When I got my eTrex 30+ I tried many of them for look and feel. For me the best is http://www.openfietsmap.nl/. I use for Britain & France.

The significant differences for me were the way the various colours showed up. On my old etrex Vista I used https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/, but on the 30 the colours weren’t good

Is there any way to view the maps [.img files] that came free on my etrex?
Ideally a Windows package (or website) so that I can use a full-size monitor and scroll around.

Purpose: to exactly determine the coverage.
Reason: to decide what/whether to update to, and if I can delete one of them to free up space.
Also, to help assess any new maps.

Of course I can scroll around using the GPS display - and I have done this - but that is a very very painful method!

BaseCamp, from Garmin.com, should do the trick.

UPDATE: not sure what I did, but it can now see the maps on my eTrex (sort of - it's a pretty quirky interface).
But it's not really doing what I want. Hopefully you can see from this screenshot, where I've selected my EuropeNE map, and zoomed out to try to see the extent: NAmerica looks much the same as all of Europe. I can veeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyyy slooooooowwwwwwwwly zoom into specific areas, but this is kinda still Square One - it's trial and error! Gosh darnit. I suspect I need to somehow copy the map onto my hard drive so that Basecamp can read it faster, but instructions are like hens teeth to do this.

HISTORY - text below is superceded by text above:
Thanks. I did try that, but when the "Maps" function tried talking to the etrex I got some weird message like
"No unlockable maps available (or on this device. Or something" ... anyway, it didn't display any maps!

I will try updating the software. Current version is probably from the stone age. Possibly predates my bike ...

This rather dated post may help: https://forums.garmin.com/apps-soft...indows/61052/see-osm-gmapsupp-img-in-basecamp
