Well perhaps you should come to Leicester and try some of the Indian cafes where the huge Indian population of Leicester actually eat.

Don't they have dining rooms in their houses in Leicester?
Indeed, and some them have restaurants in! My Mum went to one for a colleague's birthday when she was still at work, said it was tiny, only a few tables in someones front room, but the staff (IE, the family) were fantastic, explaining the different styles to her, as she didn't know much about Indian food back then.
You can also visit a lot of the Asian religious buildings at certain times of day for free food.
At the Cyclemagic fesival in august the local Sikh community were giving away free food to all cyclists.
I'll never forget that beer festival held in the (Hindu?) community centre, where there was a little kitchen area in one corner, dishing out curry, naan and rice. You sampled a few beers, fancied some curry, paid about £3 for a plateful, ate it, and then fancied some more beer... It's the rhythm of life....
The place was legendary amongst us students at the time - and I remember the comedian Mike Harding (anyone remember him?) talking about it at one of his gigs.
