it's a very good article. Pip pip!

(I think the sentence might have had more to do with the forgery than the theft)

That's the guy who stole my bike along with 9 others and tried to sell them on Gumtree. Got a letter about this from the Criminal Justice System yesterday.

Fantastic news he sounds like a right nasty piece of work. One thing though.

Before you buy a second hand bike, please consider the following:- Always inspect a bike thoroughly before placing an offer, and if you're not an expert, ask a knowledgeable friend for help.

- Does the bike have its original paintwork or has the frame number been tampered with? Thieves alter the appearance of bikes, to disguise it from the legitimate owner.

- Check the bike's frame number on all national property databases like www.bikeregister.com

- Check how much the seller knows about the bike.

- Check to see if it has been property marked.

- Meet the buyer at a fixed home or work address. Be wary of meeting buyers in a public place.

- Is the price of the bike at market value? If something seems too good to be true, it usually is....

No mention of the fact that if you buy a stolen bike you will immediately be suspected of bike theft yourself and possibly convicted even if you weren't the person who actually stole the bike. It's interesting that the police fail to mention this.
