Olive oil???

Was moaning to the guy at work that I had to buy some new lube (for the chain on my bike of course!!!!!) and he said that he didn't bother with shop bought stuff. He just uses extra virgin olive oil!
He's a seasoned racer and knows his stuff...I normally take what he says as gospel but I've never heard of it and thought that if it was a viable option then everyone would use it.
So...is it just one man's idea or the best kept secret I've never heard of???

I'm sure the late Sheldon Brown commented about using olive oil, saying it would work for around 300 miles of dry conditions. I doubt it's the best you can do for chain maintenance but will do if nowt else is available.

Popeye uses her to indicate, not sure I want to know how she lubes the chain for him though!

The first press "virgin" is for taste, not for better lubing qualities...
That's what I said to ...erm...

So the answer is take everything he says with a pinch of salt. If you want a real expert opinion, CycleChat is the place to ask, the place where everyone is in agreement with everyone else about everything.
