On the one hand I think its hideous... On the other, there's a charm to it I quite like.

I could spend 450quid on a carrera fury (mates staff discount) but it wouldn't have any character lol

Great buy that Hacienda. Makes me think to just hold out with my mates GT bike then. It was massively upgraded before my mate got it. It's got Rock Shock SID rear air suspension, that's adjustable, and Rock Shock Psylo SL front - I've heard these can leak, but considering it's been on the bike a long time, it looks and works fine. Considering the wheels are stock crap, it's bloody light.

The only thing that is a worry is the i-drive rear suspension - there is a huge BB area with a floating bearing system in there - looks and feels A1, but if it breaks, then that will be the end. It needs £150 spending on brakes and rotors and a set of decent Mavic Crossrides and a decent saddle - so needs £350 spending to make it pretty good. Drive chain is absolutely fine. Just to hand it back to my mate is £100 for brakes, and he hasn't the cash at the minute.

Delamere tomorrow. Son off to a forest adventure party for two hours there, so bike going on top of car

Will try Clayton Vale soon:biggrin:

I think if you know the history of the bike and that it has been looked after yes. I don't know about the cost of an Enduro Expert new back in the day, but the Stumpjumper Expert was circa £1500 it has got a replaced front fork on it with a decent rock shox number and a few other upgrades and replacements. All my mtb mates who are seriously into their riding have said it is a far better buy than a new hardtail, but have warned me off a new full suspension bike for less than £1200 to £1500 so secondhand is the cost effective way to get into it.

I think the enduro ex was about the same, 1500 mark.
I know a reasonable amount about road bikes, but MTB tech is a bit less familiar. I wouldn't know if a new £100 fork equals or beats a 10 year old £350 fork for example, if a new alivio rear mech beats a 10 year old xt etc. Assuming whatever new-to-old you compare was both in mint condition that is

Clayton Vale is ace. Managed fine on my 20 year old full bone shaker. Couldn't keep up with Skolly on the down hills, but I surprised myself I went down the runs.

Proper pissed off now. I was gonna go buy it today but the eBay buyer who brought my PC (which is to pay for this) is dragging his heals with payment.

Could have been high tailing it around this land by now :-(

Excellent , now you need to go and give it a thrashing on some rough stuff. Just don't go over the bars like I did on Saturday.

I nearly managed that, testing the brakes lol
Its actually in much better nick than I would have though, yeh there are marks/scuffs/scratches but not nearly as much as I expected.
Plus I ain't gonna be terrified of putting a mark on it now lol.

Almost nothing needs doing to it, I think its gonna be worth bleeding the brakes and new pads, and might be an idea to get new jockey wheels on the rear mech - everything else felt pretty much tight as as drum. Oh, need to adjust the suspension for my weight too.

Bargain at £375 that. Spare set of wheels too (will put slicks on those)
