No offence, but that'sa bit like saying you listened to Please Please me by The Beatles and then decided you didn't want to listen to the White Album.

I trust my judgement. It wasn't a sound that engendered further curiosity.

I'm happy for others to enjoy the band as much as I'm happy for others to dislike Marmite.

OK Computer for me.

Talking of the White album, part of the piano riff from Sexy Sadie was unashamedly lifted for Karma Police. Having segued the two together in radio programmes more times than I care to recall, they meld seamlessly. (now there's an unofficial smiley)

But everyone knows that the Beatles were a pile of overrated shyte. Good at writing future cover versions and that's about it.

And for what it's worth.. I'm a Bends man.

The Bends. It's partly an energy thing, and it's partly because of times and places, and my own memories of the band. I find The Bends is less mannered and has sheer power at times, cut by tenderness and pain. And 'My Iron Lung' is the best song they have ever produced IMHO. OK Computer is undoubtedly cleverer, but that's not necessarily a good thing when it comes to music.

I think MissTillyFlop's comparison isn't a good one. If you want a Beatles comparison, and it doesn't work exactly of course, it would be more like the Rubber Soul / Revolver vs. Sgt Pepper's.

I do much prefer Revolver to sgt Pepper. I personally think *ducking* Sgt Pepper is vastly overrated and has a handful
Of good songs and a load of drug up shite on it.

As the late Bill Hicks put it: " Man, the Beatles were so high, they even let Ringo sing a couple of tunes."

I agree. There's also something about discovery: prior to that album, Radiohead had one giant generation-x hit (Creep) from a very patchy debut, so the first listen to The Bends was a mixture of surprise and delight. By OK Computer, for all its merits, they were starting to forget about the tunes, which never really resurfaced until the excellent In Rainbows.

My favourite track is Fake Plastic Trees, but that may be because I was full of teenage angst when I first heard it.

And if anyone thinks that the Beatles were just creators of future cover versions, you really should buy Revolver and listen to Tomorrow Never Knows.
