Oily Leg

It's because we don't enclose our chains. Apart from full-on racing and speed bikes everyone else in Europe puts a chain case on. No more oil on legs/ tights/ trousers, oil stays on the chain, chain stays clean and lasts longer.

I haven't noticed any chain cases here in Spain either.

OK I'll admit it ...........

The nearest i've been to Spain on a bike was Barcelona (which of course is in Catelonia) and I didn't really notice.

I was thinking of The Netherlands and northern France and Belgium and the German bikes i've seen in NL.

But the reason we get oily legs/ tights/ trousers/ whatever is still because we don't enclose our chains.

I'm surprised some safety elf hasn't insisted that we do - would if it was a machine in a factory.

I get oily chain-ring shaped marks on my right calf after most rides, last week I came back with oily marks on the left hand side of my left leg...

To get the oil off your leg you can use E45 cream. You don't need water. It just wipes off with the oil, use paper,cloth or tights.
