Ordered 2 tires from wiggle... wanted to get my G/F's bike running a slicker set....

Wiggle sent me one.. and the the other one is on back order! what ever happened to common sense.. if i ordered x2 tires of the same make.. at the same time surly they must know i wanted them both at the same time..

This is the problem with everything being com-puta-ized there is no common sense.

i did try patching up the old tire with the Haribo sweets, but no luck

Sorry, I disagree.

They don't think or know anything, they just despatched what they had of your order. It would suit many people for that to happen rather than delay the entire order just for one missing item.

You could always cancel the backorder and get the 2nd tyre from somewhere else.

Depends on how long you have to wait but this is what I would do if its more than a couple of days.

I can only assume your local bike shop was closed or out of stock, prompting you to order online?

agreed. an odd comment. If my LBS had a choice of 25 or 30 different tyres at a decent price I would buy them there.

eg Thurs last week I went in looking for a chainring. Not in stock they said, but they could order it in and would probably be there Monday. I ordered it from Chain Reaction and had it the next day. only 1p cheaper, and no postage charge.

I would expect any retailer to tell me something was out of stock when I ordered it and to tell me if they couldn;t fulfill the order within their promised delivery period

wiggle really has become just another online shop now, when so many other cycle sites are still offering a personal service

my LBS is very close to online prices for a lot of routine things, crazy on others but that's all the bling stuff, fine by me

What on odd thing to say.

no, just a 'prod' at the way we have changed shopping habbits, perhaps to the detriment of the service level we now receive...

we financially put local shops to the sword by our use of online "more choice, cheaper prices blah blah blah" stores (me too, I am not being high and mighty), but then we feel we are wronged when our ultra convenient and cheap priced etailer ships an incomplete order as something was out of stock.

would patronising our lbs have resulted in being supplied the two tyres at once, even if they were ordered in for us? Or is it best to go for the cheapest method of getting the goods and then moan when it doesnt work out due to "computerised ordering" and the lack of common sense/personal service?
The same common sense/personal service that we would have received had we bought our goods locally.

pays our money, takes our choice.

I ordered, because it wasn't in stock, a set of v brake pads for ceramic rims from my LBS they have taken 4 weeks to arrive, in the meanwhile I ordered a set online and it came the next day.

I order almost all my stuff online, as it's just better value and more choice. More convenient also. The debate will continue but in these tough times, it's pounds and pence that count!

I order online from a variety of shops but I also buy from my LBS.

Yesterday, I needed a new rear hanger for the deraileur and I thought the rear deralleur was also bent. The shop were excellent and took the hanger off a stock frame and then checked over the deraileur to find it only needed a replacement jockey wheel. Job done in about 30 mins. Billy Bilsland - Saltmarket, Glasgow - top service.

I'd love to buy local, if I had the choice.

I went to one of my 'local' stores, 50km away, months ago in search of new shoes. They had a Sidi Ergo something or other that I was interested in. They didn't have my size so I asked if they could get my size in. 'Yes'... but I'd have to buy them! Needless to say, I didn't.

Sad truth is, I buy over the web from the UK since I can get the choice, cheaper prices and free postage. I can understand it from the shops perspective, they can't stock everything, but equally the would see my perspective. That said, I still buy the consumables (tubes, oil, etc) from local stores.

I don't buy anything from an LBS unless it is an emergency (25 mile round trip to LBS). When they are charging £35 for a GP4000 when I can get one online for £24 it is a no-brainer, even more so with two as I'd be saving about £20 using Ribble.
Inner tubes are another one - buying in bulk online has worked out very cheap at about £2 a pop instead of the £5+ I can find in an LBS.
Once you've bought your bike and any accessories from the LBS, there is really nothing they can offer apart from a service (which I'm happy to do myself).

It is a sign of the times as Sittingduck says.

oh for sure, and I am no different, but merely commenting on the fact that as we have moved to internet shopping for our hobby purchases, should we moan or simply accept that we have ourselves done away with the helpful, competent and personal service we once enjoyed? (bad shops aside, there are always bad apples in any bunch).
