Bit of a snag point on that!

I use a Raleigh Extreme helmet. Not expensive (about £25) but it fits my head - it'll stay on and not wobble without using the strapping (although obviously I do fasten it when riding - just highlighting how good fit is) and more importantly it doesn't make me look like a complete t1t when I'm wearing it!!

Please expand further sir, private Browser is unable to answer the question due to insufficient detail?!

D'you mean if it's cheaper it offers less protection, or if it fits better?

The way a helmet design works is that the material absorbs the energy of the impact. As you put in more ventilation, you decrease the amount of material available to absorb the impact, and hence the protection offered.

This is exacerbated by the fact that in order to retain the structural integrity the thinner strusctural elements of the helmet need to be stiffer and denser, again reducing the ability to absorb the impact energy.

Finally the ventilation and shape of these designs gives rise to something called a "snag point" this can catch on the ground when an impact occurs. When this happens there are three options, the helmet instead of dissipating energy through sliding is stopped and the brain is jarred in the skull (diffuse axonal injury) or can cause the head to rotate and hence spinal injuries. Finally there is evidence that in some designs the helmet can be ejected.

This one even comes with an integrated cleaning brush, great for cleaning that fillthy cassette. Apparently a "can of worms" comes free with every purchase.

Now can we stop the pointless helmet debate, most of us dont care what others do and like adults decide for ourselves, based on any mis/information we choose to believe.
