Me and some mates are riding the South Downs Way (100+miles) In a day in a couple of weeks. We've been training hard for a few months and are now pretty fit. Point is, we don't want to lose the fitness once the race is done and are now looking for our next challenge. We're not keen on extreme downhill action and prefer the ups and downs of the Downs, decent climbs, stunning views, challenging (but not mental) terrain. We'd quite like a challenge (England based preferably) for around October / November. Any suggestions?

The only thing up from South Downs Way for pure simplicity of following an off road route for such a distance is the Pennine Bridleway - http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/penninebridleway/

I'm thinking about trying the SDW in a day. However will probably due it in sections this year and then plan to do the whole thing in a day in a few years.

Have look at the imba web site and try the Trans Cambrian Way. More of an adventure than the SDW some very wild country riding.
There are links to transport/taxi to get you back to your start point P&P taxis we used.

you don't say which part of the country you are in but if the SDW is local to you, there is the Ridgeway a bit further north - doable in 2 days
