bit of a weird one, I had the bike serviced recently and taking it out since I've noticed a weird almost high pitched noise that sounds like a rubber glove being stretched on, constantly.

It isn't permanent but is audible for several minutes at a time. I can't attribute it to any parts other than the wheel and only when I am actually on the bike. The bike makes no unusual noises when I have it on the maintenance stand.

Does this sound like anything to be concerned about, or is it a common sound for s tyre to make when at a certain pressure etc.?

Does your bike have rubber seals on the hub? If so try a drop of oil on the seals, they can sometimes get a bit squeaky.

In my experience, squeaking from that region is often caused by the QR skewer. I really hate it when they fail when I'm riding at speed. You could try greasing it up a bit, but if it's been noisy for a while, it could be a bit dodgy by now.

RR - Please can you tell us how the QR skewer fails, at speed or otherwise? Do you find the threads have 'gone'? Or is this a catastrophic failure? Seems such a simple item. A "bit dodgy" - in what way?

Has that happened to you a lot? It must be a scary thing.

IMHO though I'd say the rubber seal rubbing fits more closely with my interpretation of the described noise. I had it once and it drove me nuts trying to track down the cause.
